Grandparent and Grandchild travel, also known as grandtravel, can be a wonderful, memory making experience for all involved. Grandchildren enjoy grandtravel because grandparents are more likely to let the grand kids make travel decisions than parents. Grandparents are more lenient and more likely to splurge on items parents would say no to.  :)

Here are some tips for Grandparent and Grandchildren Travel:

1. Pow-wow with the parents - Grandparents and parents should sit down and plan the trip before telling the grandchildren. Parents will know what kind of trips their kids can handle or be interested in.  Parents need to let the grandparents know of the children’s abilities like swim capabilities,  food likes,  and set up some rules.

2. Start small - Before making a big trip, grandparents and grandchildren should take a short, easy trip to see how things go and work out any mishaps.

3. Take advantage of savings - Grandparents and grandchildren should take advantage of senior’s discounts and childrens’ fares.

4. Included entertainment - Grandparents shouldn’t try to entertain the grandchildren all the time.  An easy way to schedule entertainment and have extra hands to help is to book a cruise or go to an all-inclusive resort.  Both have children programs that will give both Grandparents and Grandchildren a break.

5. Have all necessary papers - Accidents happen.  Make sure Grandparents have any necessary papers to authorize them for medical care or ability to take the grandchildren out of the country.

6. Know Your Limits - While the grandchildren might want a week long vacation to Disney, some grandparents can’t afford or aren’t physically able to complete a trip of that size.  It’s not the size of the trip that’s important, it’s the time spent together.
